What should I expect during my first dental visit?

Your first dental visit with Dr. Gossler will start with a review of your medical history and new patient forms. Your first visit to Dr. Gossler's office in Puyallup typically includes an X-ray that allows us to view the structure of the jaw, the position of any teeth that have not yet erupted, malformed roots and tooth decay.

Inform our office if you have experienced recent hospitalization, surgery, or if you have recently been ill. We also recommend that you tell us about any medications you are taking prescription and the name of your physician and an emergency contact. If you ever make any changes to medications you take, let us know! Your overall health and dental health are extremely connected. The information you tell us about your overall health helps Dr. Gossler provide the best possible dental care for you.

How often should I schedule dental checkups?

We encourage regular checkups for individuals age four and up. Regular checkups are important to:

• Check for problems that you might not see or feel
• Find early signs of decay
• Treat oral health problems early, while they are still manageable

Regular checkups include a thorough cleaning, polishing, and an oral exam by Dr. Gossler. During the oral exam, Dr. Gossler will check the health of your mouth, teeth, gums, cheeks, and tongue. Dr. Gossler will also check your existing fillings and restorations because constant pressure from chewing, grinding, or clenching can cause them to wear away, chip, or crack.

Regular checkup appointments typically take about 45 minutes. Patients are seen by appointment only. We make every effort to be on time for our patients, and we ask that you extend the same courtesy to us. If you cannot keep an appointment, please give us a call and we'll work with you to reschedule!
